Love the simplicity and rugged materials of this Icelandic house discreetly located in a National Park with minimum impact on the land. The interior layout is designed to be as flexible - the living room can be converted for sleeping - making sure every inch of space is used as much as possible. View high resolution

A new way to think about suburban housing? Love how these Polish houses turn green roofs into gardens, use the shape of the brick and timber houses to create privacy and also make the most of sunlight and views.

As a writer myself, and having received good news about my work, I can’t help dreaming of the day when I’ll have a place like this to write. Even in the middle of winter heaped in snow, the timber interior makes it look warm and cosy… View high resolution

Love the simple shape and materials of this cape house where the clients prioritised space and light over fancy fittings and finishes to keep costs down. Clever move - interior can be upgraded over time, but space and light are more difficult and costly to fix. View high resolution

Love how this Alpine weekend house has been designed to open and close, acknowledging its occasional use & puts a modern twist on the steep roof and timber cladding of traditional building forms in the area.

This house has all my favourite things - a waterside location, natural materials, lots of natural light and living space that opens up to the landscape. The quality of the evening light on the warm timber finishes of the living area is particularly beautiful…

A beautiful hillside house on the Chilean coast, constructed entirely from local timber with 3 sides almost solid for shading from sun & wind, whilst the other side is glazed to capture natural light and amazing views over the surrounding beach and wetlands. Clearly a labour of love - the interior, even the kitchen and furniture, is built in timber to create a seamless natural look.

Love this modern barn-style house in the Netherlands, with closed timber panel walls to provide privacy from adjoining roadways and open, glazed walls to connect to the beautiful mature garden and maximise South sunlight. The corrugated roof reminds me of staying in a cottage in the Highlands years ago, where the rain on the metal roof drummed me to sleep. Lovely.
